Okay. Drawing is not my forte. Not even a fifth-te. So, here with the help of my 6-year-old (when available) I will post once a month a BLOB PICTURE. Contestants must capture the essence of the BLOB in 100 words or less. Poems, prose, prayers, and promises can be used. The submission must be appropriate for kids 12 and under. So no profanity or political shenanigans.
The winner will be chosen by a panel of 1. The GRAND PRIZE is a real, bounce-proof check or money order or plain ol’ fashioned … $10 bill. The winning entry will be published here.
Good luck to all. Entries must be submitted by the 20th of each month. One per person. Thanks.
Email submissions to msullivantales@comcast.net.
BLOB # 1
Thanks to everyone who sent in pieces about our lovely blob below. They ranged from verse to prose, from silly to sentimental. In other words, they were a ton of fun to read.
The winner of the inaugural Blob Contest is Diana Murray, who somehow guessed my penchant for things Irish. Her entry is below. Her GRAND PRIZE of 1 fabulously lucky book of stamps is on its way, to be used only for submissions.
A Blob from Galway Bay
I’m just a blob, so green and bright,
without a place to stay.
Can I please stay with you tonight?
I’ll bring corned beef souffle.
I’ll be polite but not uptight.
I’ll wear my green beret,
and we can have a pillow fight,
then toast St. Patrick’s Day!
Congratulations, Diana. Some of the other lines that made me chuckle or outright pause to think…..
“If you think a talking hot dog is scary, you don’t want to see mystery meat in violation of mustard; he has a much lower vocabulary.” Relish Advice by Dawn Bonnevie
That’s all for #1. I’ll get my resident artist to fluff out another one in the next day. I look forward to seeing what happens next. Thanks!

Here it is. Paint still drying. Rules same as before.
Blob #2

Well, thanks again to everyone who participated in this month’s stupendous BLOB Contest. Lots of fun, different takes on our lovely fellow over here.
For some reason it looks like a Sam to me. No offense to any Sams out there.
So, without much more exposition, this month’s winner is….
Michele Harman
I am a treefrog and not a blob,
and I really like to wear lipstick.
The redder the better,
to catch my prey off gaurd
As they stop to stare at me.
With a flick of my tongue,
I snag them with ease.
I capture a worm,
it tickles as it squirms,
down my throat to my belly.
And oh the surprise,
I give to the flies,
When I catch them with my sticky tongue.
They scream as they go down,
“Your lips are way too red.”
Then more bugs come by as I reapply.
It’s great to have a fresh supply.
Hee hee. That’s April for ya! Tune in again in the next few days. I’ll have a new BLOB out as soon as my 6-year-old gets off the swings.

Blob # 3 (by my 4-year-old this time)
Good luck!

Well, May is through and here we are to June. Pools are open, pale Irish skin is turning bright red, homework is slowing to a crawl. Thanks to everyone who submitted pieces for May’s contest, Mac’s first drawing. He’s since drawn enough to last me until 2028. We’ll see.
Anyhow, to the envelope please.
May’s winner is Laura Fournier. It was a tough call this month, but as I sat staring at Mac’s Blob and reading the pieces, this one fit him the best, I think. It was short and simple and, heck, I just could hear Momma Blob getting all in a huff as Junior goes crayon-ing on the walls.
I see a monster’s shadow, scary and tall.
A scribbling monster is creeping down the hall.
He’s scribbling scribbles on the floor and the wall.
I tell him, write neatly or don’t write at all.
Thanks, all, once more for a fun month of reading. Keep ‘em coming!

June’s Blob

Not exactly sure what is happening in this one, but it looks like something important!
Best of luck, blobbers!
Okay, it’s far into July now and I’ve totally let summer get the best of me and The Blob Contest. We’ll get this up and running again by August and let this Blob picture hang out until we get a larger batch in.
Mike,
Thank you!! I’m so excited; and, I’m grateful to you for the lucky stamps! I will use the stamps wisely!
Michele
Love it, Mike! What a fun and original idea. What an artist you have on staff!
Charlene
Thanks, Mike! How exciting! A lucky stamp will be the perfect finishing touch on my subs.
I hope you get the “blob” rolling again soon…
Diana
Woohoo! That was fun! I love these kinds of contests for getting the ol’ creative juices flowing. Thanks for the opportunity, Mike!

I am new to SCBWI and found this paticular contest a challenge. I hope I’ve captured the essence of the “Blob”.
